How To Grow
Sow 5mm () deep in trays of seed raising mix or direct in flowering position and keep moist. Transplant into the garden when large enough to handle. Use garden mulch to keep roots cool in warm weather and keep weeds down. Feed with liquid fertiliser when buds appear. Seedlings emerge 10-14 days.
It is recommended you lift and divide your tubers annually, especially in high rainfall areas. Tubers should be stored and replanted the following Spring.
For best results, plant Dahlias in fertile soils that contain organic matter.
Dahlias grow best with a regular deep watering once or twice a week. They will tolerate morning or afternoon shade.
Stake tall varieties and protect from strong winds to avoid damage to flowers and foliage.
Deadhead regularly as removing spent flowers encourages new buds and controls pests and diseases.
Allow foliage to yellow fully before cutting back so that nutrients can be absorbed back into the tuber for a better flowering season next year.
