Description
Official Georgia State Flag 2003 ; Present (Nylon)This Georgia State Flag design was adopted by the Georgia State Legislature on May 8, 2003, and bears three horizontal red-white-red bars. The blue field in the upper left contains a ring of 13 stars representing the original 13 states, of which Georgia was one, encircling a golden Georgia state seal (coat of arms). Within the seal, the arch symbolizes the constitution of the State of Georgia and the three pillars represent the three branches of government, while the words of the state motto, ;Wisdom, Justice, and Moderation;, are entwined around the pillars. The structure is protected by a colonial figure standing guard with his sword drawn to represent the defense of the state;s constitution. The figure is dressed in clothing reminiscent of the American Revolution. In God, We Trust also appears below these elements. This flag design is based on the First National Flag of the Southern States during the American Civil War, which was also known as the Stars and Bars. Since the State of Mississippi changed its flag design in 2020, Georgia has one of the only state flags left with references to the Civil War. It is also one of only three state flags that bear the words ;In God We Trust;. The other two are Florida and Mississippi.Georgia State Flag Pledge;I pledge allegiance to the Georgia flag and to the principles for which it stands; Wisdom, Justice, and Moderation.;The artwork is dyed onto the nylon fabric penetrating through to the opposite side so the image is visible on both sides of the flag.
