Official ;American Made; Arizona State Flag 1917 ; PresentThis Arizona State Flag design was adopted by the third state legislature on February 27th, 1917, and pays tribute to the Spanish Conquistadors who explored that part of the continent hundreds of years ago. The current flag of Spain is primarily made up of the same shades of red and yellow found on the Arizona flag. The artwork consists of thirteen alternating red and yellow rays above a field of blue. The thirteen rays represent the original thirteen colonies while the large copper star in the center of the design acknowledges the fact that Arizona is the largest copper-producing state in the US. The red and blue are of the same shades as those found on the American Flag. A 2001 poll conducted by the North American Vexillological Association ranked the Arizona State Flag among the top ten best flag designs of the 72 different flags found on the North American continent.The artwork is dyed onto the nylon fabric penetrating through to the opposite side so the image is visible on both sides of the flag.
